Eiffel Tower France
The city of Paris is home to perhaps one of the most well-known sights in the world: The Eiffel Tower. This huge structure is equally admired and loathed by Parisians, but is uncontested as one of the true starring attractions of the city.
The Eiffel Tower was built in 1889 when Paris hosted the World Fair. At the time, it was the tallest structure in the world at a staggering 1050 ft. The tower was instantly scorned by the city's upper class, which nearly resulted in it being torn down in 1909. However, when it was discovered that the tower provided the perfect place in which to affix much needed TV towers it was spared.
The tower is hands down the best way to gain panoramic views of the city. You can either take stairs or an elevator up to any of the three levels, although the best view is definitely from the top. There is also an adjoining park next to the tower where Parisians like to gather for picnics or a stroll on a sunny day.
