Pere-Lachaise Cemetery Paris
The beautiful Pere-Lachaise cemetery in Paris is one of the most un-spooky cemeteries out there. Instead, it is a peaceful city of the deceased, consisting of a maze of named streets that elegantly pass through endless decorated grave markers and mausoleums.
Founded in 1804, the cemetery now holds over 70 000 tombs. It has long been considered the final resting place of Paris' rich and famous, and there are many well-known figures buried here. One of the cemetery's most popular graves is that of the late Jim Morrison, singer for the band The Doors who died in his Paris apartment in 1971. Famed singer Edith Piaf is also buried here, as well as poet and playwright Oscar Wilde.
